I have HCS 8.1 and when I click on Administration --> vCenters it's empty.
Is there a step by step guide how to add add vCenters to it.
And is it possible to do so but without giving VMware admins permissions to do storage stuff ?
To register a vCenter Server in HCS, you have to go Administration > Manager Resources > Hosts. Click Add Hosts > change OS Type to VMware.
I'm not sure what your last question means. Registering vCenter Server in HCS just makes it easier for the storage team to provision storage to the VMware hosts and track the usage. The VMware team wouldn't gain any access to HCS or any array management capabilities.
Thanks this is what I needed.
This method seems to insist on the vCenter server having an WWN or ISCSI, which in our case it does not. Only our ESX servers have WWNs. How does one overcome this?
There isn't a requirement for the vCenter Server to have WWNs or iSCSI in order to register it in HCS. Were you not able to register your vCenter Server in HCS? Did you get an error message?
Without a WWN the 'OK' button does not become clickable on my GUI.
Oh I see what you're saying. Yes, a WWN is required when manually adding a host. With the HDC, it will automatically log in to the hosts and find their WWNs.
When I try to add vCenter that was installed on top of windows everything is fine, But when I try to add vCenter appliance I get this error.
An unknown error occurred during Host Data Collector processing. (KAIC05512-E)
User have full Admin rights.
Any ideas ?
I'm checking with a colleague to see if vCenter appliance is supported. The documentation isn't clear on this.
Any news on this issue ?
I couldn't find a conclusive answer on whether vCSA is supported or not supported on my own. I think you'll have to open a case with HDS Support so the query can be formally forwarded to the right people, .e.g Product Management.
