What are best way to clean the USPV after decommissioning? Does any CCI commands to shred the LUN like in VSP?
Please see chapter 2 in the Volume Shredder User Guide.
Based on the type of drive : flash,FMD or Spinning drive you calculate a pattern to be written and the number of passes required.
Then follow the instructions in the manuals for the GUI.
If you are using the command line use raidcom initialize ldev and specify the shredding pattern.
For the raidcom syntax refer the CCI manuals
Check the CCI Manual Page 5-53
# raidcom initialize ldev -operation shrd 0x55aa55aa -ldev_id 200
What are the cleaning steps needed.
Unexport LDEV from Hosts
Delete host groups
FORMAT /SHRED LDEV ????
Any Thing else
Can someone comment on the last step, in this case the system is going to be repurposed but being decom from its current location, all host have been removed, no active IO.
Thank you Vinod. Hitachi Volume shredder User Guide helps.
The entire step you mention in your email is what you need to do pretty much to decommission. You can delete pools even if you want it to be completely clean. If any CLPR partition exists, you can delete that even.
Ok so only question i have left is.
Since the Storage subsystem is not leaving the company , just being redeployed, does it make sence to Shred the ldev, i have two other options which should also be considered since system is not leaving the company.
I am assuming that i have no risk of data copy and/or piracy withen the company and my only goal is to have space free up to create new ldev.
1. FORMAT--This should wipe out the current data or is it not enough and should be shreded.
2. Deleting existing ldev by freeying up space ( Vol to space) to make room for new LDEV.
Yes, you are right. You don’t need to shred the LDEV, if you are planning to use the array again. Format the LDEV and use it again. Consider upgrading the microcode now, as it is a good time to do so.
All is going well but one minor issue.
I see some LUSE Volume, which is preventing me to format the parity group, i was able to reclaim some luse vols but there is something left over that is not allowing format, i have attached the screenshots and error, there seems to be no option to delete first LDEV in a luse.
I tried formating LDEV/Blocking it and shreding it but i get a error.
Keep in mind that i have already released the luse volume and i am not seeying anywhere this ldevs being configured except the LUN Expanstion Tab and i dont seems to have delete funtion there.
UPDATE: i was able to free up space in the parity group after moving ldev around in the luse ( Expansion Tab) for some strange reason, there are no more active LDEV on this system , however, i cannot format, error is attach.
I Tried formating indevedual parity and entire box , both failed.
I have logged in as myself , i will try the system account
Post the Storage Navigator Error code.
Cant see the attachment
I am reattaching the richtxt document saved as msword, both should open with word.
Release the LUSE first. Commit the changes. Then perform the volume to space.
Whats puzzling me now is i have no LDEV, no LUSE Config, still format thinks there may be something out there.
I am going through the array just in case i missed soemething, all parity capacity is as free space and there are no ldev configured on any parity group, only internal storage is attached to this system.
My current thinking is that if all you have left in the parity group is free space then formting is not your option, this is confirmed if i check one parity only install CV is availlable option.
I have redone the attachement ( last pic)
