SMI-S is the Storage Management Initiative Specifications developed by SNIA (Storage Networking Industry Association) which represents the first common, interoperable management standard for storage networks.
Hitachi HiCommand Storage Services Manager (HSSM) is Hitachi's main console for heterogeneous storage infrastructure management based on the SMI-S standard. HSSM provides SAN visualization and reporting, asset management, application dependency mapping, capacity planning, and event management.
As storage manufacturers increasing incorporate SMI-S as a management interface into their products, HSSM can provide support for these standards-compliant devices with minimal development efforts. It also simplifies the task of correlating data within the management application since the various layers of the storage infrastructure (host, switch, storage array) report on their associations using a common construct.

HiCommand QoS for File Servers is an add on module to the HiCommand Storage Services Manager product that provides traditional file scanning and reporting capabilities expected of storage resource management. QoS for File Servers provides the ability to monitor file server free space, report on large files, identify over-quota users, and reclaim unused capacity simplifying the management of the file server environment.

With QoS for Oracle that is part of the HiCommand Storage Services Manager product, you can quickly determine whether performance issues are originating in your Oracle databases or somewhere in your underlying storage network. QoS for Oracle automatically charts the path from your Oracle table spaces to the disks in your storage subsystems, and illuminates the dependencies on hosts, HBAs, switches, and arrays. Real-time performance monitoring views enable you to track the performance of every layer in your application storage stack.
Question: Can Hitachi HiCommand Storage Services Manager be interfaced with existing enterprise management systems?
You can configure HiCommand Storage Services Manager so that events received into the management application generates SNMP traps, which can be sent to another enterprise management system, such as HP's OpenView or CA's UniCenter. HiCommand Storage Services Manager supports up to five SNMP trap destinations and includes a SNMP MIB you can compile into your existing enterprise framework. This MIB contains trap definitions so your management tool can understand the traps. Events can also trigger user-written scripts or programs, which is another way users can interface HiCommand Storage Services Manager to other system management programs.
