Hi, I wanted to implement COW in old enterprise VSP storage .Pls help me how to achive this. I am new for this. I read the doc but its makes me confusion.Pls anybody help me in this regard
This link is documents for HDS products. If you search with "Copy on Write", you can see a VSP COW user guide in the shown list. https://support.hds.com/en_us/documents.html
I have the document .But its make me confusion. For example we have 5*100gb P-vols and wanted to take the snapshot daily basis. So what is the POOL-vol Size and under this what is the volume size ?
And what is the V-vol size ?
You will need COW pool separatly for COW which was stored changed block. And then calculate COW pool capacity by analysing IO profile.
I have one simple question is in Pool-vol its contains physical volume ?
and V-Vol or S-vol contains the other physical volume ?
So if we want take the 100gb lun snapshot and assuming data changes is very small 50mb.
V-vol is thin ldev from HDP pool that was configured by pool-vol. but as well as you knew, changed data was stored COW pool not HDP pool. I usually caculates 20% usable capacity for COW pool of production volume.
that is confusing me there two component for COW .One is Pool-vol and other is V-vol or S-vol.
As you said V-vol is thin ldev from HDP pool.
So is it mean V-vol group and Pool-vol contains the same thin ldev ?
Click this link for some help.
Sorry for that confusion. You means that V-vol is from pool-vol(pool type should be selected COW) which actually is stored changed data. When you creates pairs for COW, P-vol is mapping to s-vol that is v-vol.
Can you send me steps ? one by one .So i can understand better.
I think Zubair Ali, you should attend a training in hds to get
- concepts right
- best practices
